Thorns Infant School is situated in Kenilworth, Warwickshire. It is a small town close to Leamington Spa and Coventry. Stratford upon Avon, Shakespeare's birthplace is only 20 miles away. Thorns School was opened in September 1957 as a one form entry Primary School. In 1976 education in Warwickshire was reorganised and Thorns became a first school, taking children from the age of 4 to 8. Following further reorganisation by Warwickshire in 1996, Thorns became an infant school, with children from 4+ to 7+ attending. We have extensive grounds, two playgrounds, an agility trail, a sports field and an outdoor curriculum area for reception children. We are also fortunate to have a swimming pool on our site. It was built many years ago by parents as an outdoor pool. When enough money had been rasied a roof was erected. One of our teaching assistants is a fully qualified swimming instructor and pupils have a weekly swimming lesson. Another unique feature of our school is a metal sculpture depicting "Alice Through The Looking Glass". It was made by a local artist, Walter Richie, who also designed two carved stone panels in Coventry's shopping precinct.
